As one of the steps necessary to support lakes, dikes and lands below the sea level in Outerra, I've made the sea level parametrized. For now it can be set globally to values above or below the mean sea level.
Here are some screens of North America for sea levels of 0, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 meters.
The same for Europe with sea levels of 0, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 meters.
With 500 and 1000m rise the world changes beyond recognition.
While the rise of sea level by 1000m is completely out of proportion and would require some serious biblical sinning or Earth gradually absorbing a body of water with the size of Sedna, it could still serve as a background for a science-fiction based game.
For some opposite change: Great Britain with sea level falling by -20, -50 and -100m respectively:
Lastly, a view from the hills around the Los Angeles sea.

cool stuff
wonderful
It is pretty impressive how Europe is just obliberated by the water, whereas the American continent has some very high landscapes that still reach out of the water at 500m+
Just started following your blog and I'm amazed.
Awesome job.
You should read the sci-fi novel 'Flood' by Stephen Baxter: it's set in a world where a flooding like the one depicted in your images is happening.
It's unbelievable what you guys did with this game engine! The amount of realism at a planetary level! How many TBytes of data does the whole world consume? What language did you use for the game engine? In what language can you make games in it? There's so many questions I have for this!
World takes around 13GB at the moment, not TBs as it uses procedural tech to generate the details. The engine is programmed in C++, the games can be in C++ and/or a couple of scripting languages - we'll see when it gets done. Please see our forum for more info :)
If you could create a detailed Earth where you control the updates to detail (surface), you could sell this in a number of ways. (I'm sure you realise this, but I just want to put it out there) Game developers could purchase the Developed world platform and add there game to it. Eg;Grand Theft Auto, The Amazing Race, SIMS, Flight Simulators, Modern War Fare, the list could go on. Or plane companies could use it as a training flight sim, so on and so on. You would own the platform and developers would pay for their rights to add to the surface. WOW this is amazing, I hope an Open World Game will be created with this over the next 3-4years. I WILL BUY IT! Good luck, I look forward to following your blog.
